Celebrating the art of magic
The Good Magic Award has been set up by psychologist and magician Professor Richard Wiseman in collaboration with The Good Thinking Society.
Last year, the Award focused on performers who use magic tricks to improve the lives of others, including work with disadvantaged groups, charities, hospital patients, and schools. We received many strong entries and the judging panel selected two winners: Megan Swann (who presents a magic show that promotes environmental issues) and Breathe Magic (who support children with hemiplegia by helping them to learn tricks that improve physical and psychological wellbeing).
This year, the award will provide £2,000 to support a new and innovative project that promotes the art of magic. This might, for example, include developing a live or virtual performance, writing a magic-related book or essay, creating a podcast, devising a new form of illusion or presentation, or undertaking research into the history of magic. It is a wide remit, and is open to performers and other individuals who aim to promote the art of magic to fellow magicians and/or to the public. A judging panel will select the winner on the basis of potential impact, innovation, and ability to deliver the proposed activity. The winner is expected to complete the project within 12 months of the start date.

- The award is open to both individuals and organisations.
- Applicants need to be over 18 years old and currently residing in the UK.
- Applicants are asked to complete the form below, supplying a brief description of their background and proposed use of an award. If appropriate, applicants can provide one or more website address(es) to support their application.
- The winner will receive £2,000 to help fund their activities. It is hoped that applicants will spend the funds within 12 months of receiving the award, and produce a short report (typically no longer than one side of A4) outlining how the funds were used.
- You can nominate yourself now and nominations will close at 5pm (GMT) on 20th February 2021.
- The winner will be announced within a month of the closing date.
