Having authored ‘The Code Book’, Good Thinking’s founder Simon Singh has built a small collection of crypto-artefacts, including an Enigma cipher machine that is taken to schools to illustrate the importance of maths. The Enigma is usually on tour with James Grime, and you can contact him to arrange a visit. You can also book Simon Singh to talk about and demonstrate the Enigma – this double act is not cheap, but all the money goes towards supporting Good Thinking.
Simon also owns an M209, a mechanical cipher machine used by the US military during the Second World War. The machine will be auctioned by Bonhams Fine Art Auctioneers on 27 October. Please spread news of the sale, as the money raised will be divided between Good Thinking and the fantastically important All Trials campaign (run by Sense About Science).
And, if you cannot afford to bid in excess of £1,000 for an M209, please consider making a small monthly or one-off donation to support the work of Good Thinking and/or All Trials.
