The UK skeptical community has a fantastic array of talented campaigners and activists dedicated to tackling alternative medicines and the therapists and companies who practice or sell them.
While much of this excellent work happens individually and independently, some of the most notable successes of recent years have occurred when activists collaborate and share ideas. When passionate, committed skeptics are in a room together, we think good things can happen.
With this in mind, we are organising an alternative medicine ‘hack day’, taking place on May 17th in London, as a chance for a dozen or so alternative medicine campaigners, bloggers and researchers to use their ideas and expertise to brainstorm and design projects to tackle alternative medicine.
Our hack day participants may already have ideas for projects, or may have some specific targets in mind… or may simply want to be part of the team, and to offer help. Help could come in many forms – medical expertise, research skills, web development or even just the passion and enthusiasm to make a difference.
By the end of the hack day, by pooling knowledge and ideas, we’re hoping a number of new projects can be developed.
Spaces at the hack day are limited. We will be providing refreshments and we will cover travel costs.
When: Saturday 17th May, 2014 – 10:30am-6pm
Where: Venue TBA, Central London
If you would like to be part of our hack day, then please complete the form* – we ask only that you have a genuine commitment to actively challenging the false claims of the alternative medicine industry.
The closing date for applications is 1st May, 2014, with participation confirmed by 5th May, 2014.
We look forward to seeing you there.
*Update: The deadline for applications has now passed
