Six students who took the Round 2 Who Wants to Be a Mathematician qualifying test have qualified for the live, on-stage finals that will take place at the 2017 Maths Fest in London on February 9. The top prize is £150.
The six students are: Connie Bambridge-Sutton (Reigate Grammar School), John Harber (King’s College London Mathematics School), Charlie Hu (City of London School), Shavindra Jayasekera (Wilson’s School), Yuji Okitani (Tapton Academy), and Simon Wisniewski (St Paul’s Catholic College [Sixth Form]). Stand-up mathematician Matt Parker will emcee the finals.
The competition is organized and co-sponsored by Good Thinking and the United Kingdom’s Maths Fest. UK students who scored 8 or above on the Round 1 test took the Round 2 test online using Maple TA, courtesy of Maplesoft, the Who Wants to Be a Mathematician technology sponsor.
