The second round of Who Wants to Be a Mathematician is now complete, and we are delighted to be able to announce the four students, who will be taking part in the UK final next month:
- Zaka Ahmed from King Edward VI Aston, Birmingham
- Jordan Baillie from St Maurice’s High School, Cumbernauld
- Jingyi Guo from Concord College, Shrewsbury
- Paul Scarr from Whitley Bay High School, Newcastle
These four teenage mathematicians beat over 1,000 other students from across the UK to win a place in the live final in London on November 28th, hosted by stand-up mathematician Matt Parker. The UK winner will then go on to compete in the Grand Final in Baltimore at the Joint Mathematics Meeting, the world’s largest gathering of mathematicians, where they will pit their mathematical wits against the regional winners from across the US and Canada. The overall champion will win $10,000, to be shared between the student and their school.
